Live Nation and The Fillmore in Minneapolis present Cameron Whitcomb
Review and hpotos by Jesse McKinney
Cameron Whitcomb was not really in my usual genres i listen to, but this was one I was actually excited for going in. A lot of my friends said they were going or wished they could. Once I got inside The Fillmore it made sense pretty quick. it was packed all the way to the back. It was probably the most packed I’ve seen it in a long time, and you could feel the anticipation and excitment from the crowd
His sound sits in that country, alt-country, folk lane, and live he blends it all together into a great live show! A lot of that comes from how much he moves. Cameron Whitcomb was all over the place the entire set! One minute he was right up front with the crowd, then he had a guitar, then he was signing a shoe, he even started his set by entering the stage with a backflip! He has that kind of stage presence where you can tell people are watching him just to see what he does next.
The set had a nice mix with a little something for everyone, even for someone like me who doesn’t usually listen to country. He mixed in faster songs that kept the room moving and slower ones, and even the occasional cover. The lighting was pretty simple, nothing too flashy and that worked perfectly for him. The focus stayed on the songs and how much the crowd was reacting to them. You could really see why he has such passionate fanbase! When the songs got more vulnerable, people were not just casually listening, they were right there with him, singing along and hanging onto those moments.
For someone who first broke through on season 20 of American Idol, Cameron does not come off like he is just riding off that. He is building something big and after seeing the way the crowd at The Fillmore responded, it was pretty easy to understand why people connect with him so strongly.
