The inaugural concert at the new Mystic Lake Amphitheater got off to a joyous start as Morris Day and The Time delivered an energetic performance that celebrated both Minnesota music history and the arrival of a major new outdoor entertainment venue.

Headlining the amphitheater’s opening-night festivities, Morris Day proved that charisma never goes out of style. Dressed with his signature flair and backed by a tight, polished band, Day commanded the stage from the moment he appeared, mixing smooth vocals, playful banter, and the showmanship that has made him a fan favorite for decades.

The crowd responded enthusiastically as the band rolled through a set packed with classics. Familiar hits such as Jungle Love and The Bird transformed the venue into a giant dance floor, with fans singing along and filling the summer evening with infectious energy.

What stood out most was the sense of celebration. The concert was more than a performance; it was a tribute to the Minneapolis sound and the artists who helped put Minnesota on the musical map. Day’s connection to the region added an extra layer of meaning to the occasion, and the audience embraced the hometown pride that flowed throughout the evening.

Acoustics at the new amphitheater were strong, allowing the band’s crisp horn lines, driving rhythms, and layered vocals to shine. The venue’s spacious layout and modern amenities provided a comfortable setting for the thousands in attendance, many of whom were experiencing the amphitheater for the first time.

Even after decades in the spotlight, Morris Day remains a consummate entertainer. His timing, humor, and effortless rapport with the audience kept the show moving at a lively pace, while the band’s musicianship demonstrated why The Time’s catalog continues to resonate with fans old and new.

As the final notes rang out and the crowd offered a standing ovation, one thing was clear: the opening night of Mystic Lake Amphitheater was a success. Powered by funk, nostalgia, and a distinctly Minnesota spirit, Morris Day and The Time delivered a memorable performance worthy of the venue’s debut.

Rating: 4½ out of 5 stars. A lively, crowd-pleasing concert that honored the past while helping launch a promising new chapter for live music in Minnesota.
