The Pixies – Palace Theater – St. Paul MN – October 10th 2017

The Palace Theater in St. Paul, Minnesota welcomed The Pixies on October 10, 2017.  The Palace Theater is still a rather new venue to the Twin Cities, having opened last year.  It made for a great venue for this show, as well as the one the following evening.  The venue is hundred year old fully renovated historic theater, made to work as an event venue.  Because of its history, it hold that classic beauty of the historical buildings in that area.

One question that I had, and I feel a majority of the audience had going into the show, was how great was this show going to be in 2017?  The Pixies were formed in 1986, and their particular form of what was then considered alternative, or new wave, was very popular.  They have a sound to them that brings you back to that era, which is hard to describe unless you lived through the times.  So to wonder that it may still be the same thirty years later is reasonable.  And of course, it wasn’t the same, but it was still a great show.  The Pixies gave it their all and the songs played certainly appealed to everyone in the crowd, big fan or not.

The Pixies played a fun show, lasting over two hours with a thirty-three song set.  The energy of the band and audience was very high throughout the evening and I was sure a number of them were going to be going to the sold out second show.  They played a number of different songs from their career, including my personal favorites, “Cactus”, “Break My Body” and the very popular, but amazing, “Where is My Mind?”.  The show very much exceeded my expectations, as well as many other in attendance.
