Soul Asylum – First Avenue – Minneapolis MN – December 28th 2018

Soul Asylum and The 4 On The Floor First Avenue 12/28/18

Soul Asylum one of Minneapolis’ hometown heroes returned for what has become a regular yearly holiday show at First Avenue.  They packed the place as always which is nice to see. People getting out as seeing live music.

I remember seeing them when they first started out as Loud Fast Rules. Today the only remaining original member caring the torch is Dave Pirner. If you care to see some history of the band, stop by HiFi Hair and Records in downtown Minneapolis to see the door to their apartment. Really, its there! They have really come a long way since then.  I didn’t care for them in the beginning but they have really turned in to a solid rock band with some great songs. “Misery” will always be the highlight for me. They put on a great show and would be a perfect double bill with someone like Cheap Trick.

They were on tour last summer with Three Doors down.  You can catch them in Minneapolis at least once a year if not more.  I highly recommend going to see Soul Asylum.

The opening band was equally impressive.  They are from Minneapolis and have been around for 10 years, the name of the band is The 4 On The Floor.  I try not to box a band into a style but when you are doing a review its the only way to give you a sense of what they are. To me they sounded country rock like Blackberry Smoke or The Zac Brown band. Great hooks and melody, great songs, great vocals and stellar musicianship.  Please get out and support this band! \
