There is perhaps no rapper or performer more recognizable than Snoop Dogg, so when I saw he was going to be making an appearance at Treasure Island Resort & Casino in Welch, MN, I knew I had to catch the show!

Snoop Dogg grew up in southern California and began singing and performing at a very young age. His mom nicknamed him Snoopy after the cartoon character in Peanuts, and the name stuck.   He started rapping in sixth grade, drawing crowds, and after high school, homemade tapes he made with his cousins attracted the attention of Dr. Dre who signed the young rapper to his record label in 1991. In addition to his successful recording career, Snoop Dogg has become a cultural icon, with numerous TV and movie appearances, so it was pretty exciting to see him take the stage at Treasure Island Amphitheater in front of a crowd of 10,000 fans!

Snoop took the stage fashionably late, after a DJ on stage got the crowd warmed up. He then proceeded to take us on a journey through over 30 years of rap and hip hop hits; songs like “G Funk Intro,” “Tha Shiznit,” “Deep Cover,” and of course “Gin and Juice.” Snoop also had a bunch of guest performers join him on stage including female rapper The Lady of Rage, as well as the rap duo The Eastsidaz, Kurupt, RBX, and Twinz.  It made for a lot of variety with so many artists!

Snoop kept the crowd engaged, with plenty of interaction (at one point asking, “can anyone out smoke Snoop??” The guy with the MONSTEROUS doobie in front of me certainly was trying!)  There were plenty of fun covers too, with songs by 50 Cent, 2Pac, Katy Perry, House of Pain and more.  It seemed fitting to end the concert with “Young, Wild & Free,” a song Snoop called “our national anthem!”  Clocking in at a little more than an hour and ten minutes, it was a too short concert, but still a lot of fun packed into a short amount of time. It was a great way to close out the final outdoor concert of the summer season at the Treasure Island Amphitheater!
