Minnesota State Fair – Day One
There is always a great deal of excitement for opening day at the Minnesota State Fair and this year was no different. Hootie and the Blowfish performed at the Grandstand and there were a lot of other exceptional music performances going on throughout the day.
1013 Music Reviews made it out for Belinda Carlisle, the Leinie’s Lodge Bandshell headliner for the Thursday, 8/22 & Friday, 8/23. The former Go Go’s singer kicked off the Bandshell Tonight Concert Series with a fun and spirited performance. Fans sang along to favorites and eventually packed the space in front of the stage to dance and show Carlisle their appreciation for her significant contribution to the 80’s music scene.
We also had a blast checking out the Cajun influenced vibe of Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band performing before Carlisle at the Leinie’s Lodge. The Shell’s Stage at the Westend had some strong performances reflecting the current Twin Cities music scene – Joyann Parker belted out several great sets as only she can. There was a nice gathering at the MPR Booth for an intimate performance by another busy Twin Cities band, Davina and the Vagabonds. We also checked in for some of our potential performers of the future at the Amateur Talent Contest.
