Maddie Zahm brought her sold-out You Might Not Like Her tour to the Amsterdam on a cold snowy Sunday night, and the place was packed and full of heart.
Carook opened the show with a lovely set of songs ranging from soft struggles with queerness and relationships to simply not liking snakes. A soft indie/folk feel tinged all their songs and it felt like you were listening to a friend. Their lyrics were straightforward but hit home with simple poetry.
It was obvious when Maddie Zahm took the stage that her music resonated with every person in the room in some shape or form. Every song was heartfelt, stating romanticized, dramatic, poetic lyrics about relationships, religion, and coming out as and being queer. Every song was a loud sing-along, and she interacted with many people in the audience. It was a very intimate, cathartic show, with lots of scream-singing and tears from the audience. Maddie’s dynamic range is fantastic, her songs ranging from almost inaudible singing to belts of passion. She is definitely someone to keep an eye on for those into the indie-pop genre.
