Brandi Carlile played live with Wynonna Judd at the Minnesota State Fair.  Its not uncommon to hear performers tell an audience that their favorite place to perform is where every they happen to be on any given night. In the case of Brandi Carlile and the relationship she has built with fans here in the Twin Cities however, such a statement actually carries some weight. The beautiful thing is that those words always manage to spark what feels like an extra special effort every time I’ve seen her here.

Brandi’s set included hits like “The Joke” and “Broken Horses.” Each song showcased her incredible range. The band played with precision and passion.  The crowd cheered loudly. Brandi’s energy was contagious. She engaged with the audience between songs. Her humor and warmth shone through.

Carlile’s August 29th performance on the grandstand stage at the Minnesota State Fair absolutely was another one of those special nights. This time around she included Wynonna Judd as her very special guest. For anyone who wasn’t aware and hadn’t seen her before, Judd show once again what a powerhouse singer she continues to be with a fun and sassy performance.
