Alter Bridge – Filmore – Minneapolis MN – August 29th 2023

Alter Bridge with Sevendust and MJT – The Fillmore Minneapolis – August 29th, 2023

A powerful night of rock filled the Fillmore as the Pawns and Kings tour, headlined by Alter Bridge, with support from Sevendust and MJT made one of its last stops in Minneapolis.  Starting the night, alternative rockers MJT mixed power and passion with soul and even a little funk for an energetic display of musicality.  The trio, comprised of brothers Matt (keyboards/synth), Jordan (drums) and David (lead guitars/vocals) delivered an emotional and moving performance full of complex melodies and rhythms.

On the heels of the release of their 14th studio album “Truth Killer”, powerhouse rockers Sevendust absolutely brought down the house with a performance that was also filled with deep power and emotion.  Vocalist Lajon Witherspooon was flawless with both commanding vocals and a genuine, heartfelt, and expressive performance. After opening the set with the dominance of “Face to Face” off of their 4th studio album “Seasons” and “Denial” off their 2nd album “Home”, they transitioned into the softer and more poignant “Crucified”, which at the start of the song, Witherspoon became visibly emotional and had to pause to collect his composure, with tears forming in his eyes.  Along with the powerhouse of musicians Vince Hornsby (bass), Morgan Rose (drums), John Connolly (rhythm guitar) and Clint Lowery (lead guitar and backing vocals), Sevendust left it all out on the stage and blew away the crowd at the Fillmore.

Alter Bridge closed the night with a performance that was equally both intense and commanding as it was seemingly effortless and flawless.  Myles Kennedy consistently delivers impeccable vocals, full of power and range, and he pairs that with intricate and diverse guitar stylings.  Adding to this a subtle and yet captivating stage performance, he is easily one of the most underrated performers in rock.  They opened their set with “Silver Tongue”, bringing the new album “Pawns and Kings” to the forefront of the aptly named tour run.  They then jumped back 10 years to hit “Addicted to Pain”, with bassist Brian Marshall and guitarist Mark Tremonti’s boundless energy and showmanship on display with their musical talent.  Rounding out the band is Scott Phillips thunderous and precise drumming.  The charisma and energy of the whole group is a brilliant display of the chemistry and cohesiveness that has kept this group together and performing for 19 years, while clearly enjoying and cherishing the work that they do.  They oscillated between the classic heavy rock tunes and some beautiful and tender acoustic moments, including “In Loving Memory” and crowd-favorite “Blackbird”.  Closing out the night with their hit “Metallingus” followed by an encore of “Rise Today”, they concluded a perfect evening of rock with both a powerful and positive energy that had carried through all the bands of the night enveloping the crowd and exhibiting why Alter Bridge is still at the top of their game.
