Steve Vai – Ames Center – Burnsville MN – October 23rd 2016
The Ames Center presents Steve Vai on the Passion and Warfare 25th Anniversary Tour.
It’s hard to believe it has been 25 years since the release of this album. After Steve Vai had a stint with David Lee Roth through out the late eighties he recorded and released Passion and Warfare. In addition to his solo work, Vai has collaborated with numerous artists across various genres. This further showcases his versatility. He has worked with the likes of David Lee Roth, Whitesnake, and Alcatrazz, among others, bringing his distinctive sound to a wide array of musical projects. He explained it took him a little while to release it because he was not sure if he could front a band or how it would be received.
It is hard to not say he is the best guitar player on the planet. Watching him play he makes it look so easy. As if he was born with the guitar in his hand.
He came out with lasers on his head and a hoodie on. Looking like a space alien with laser eyes, very cool effect. I am not a huge guitar wizard guy but I could watch him play for hours. He played the whole album and gave stories here and there about the songs.
He then did a set of classics and even some Frank. Towards the end he came up into the seats for us to get a closer look at the master. Over all I mean what can you say about Steve. The best there is.
