Sleeping with Sirens – The Myth – Maplewood MN – Ocotober 20th 2026
Shyeye
I hadn’t heard Shyeye before this show, but the Nashville alt-rock and emo/post-hardcore band really caught my attention, especially with their song “Knot.” The slower parts of their set were about what I expected for this tour but what I didn’t expect were some of the heavier parts, especially a scream vocalist Destiny Keller lets out in that song! I wish there had been more of those harsh vocals throughout the set.
The Myth was packed and there wasn’t much room left onstage for the opener either. The guitarist and bassist mostly stayed in their spots, headbanging and getting the crowd going while Keller moved around what space she had. She didn’t have much trouble getting people involved though! When she asked the crowd to move, they listened!
I thought some quieter parts were a little too quiet, but otherwise the mix sounded great everywhere I went in the venue. The lighting was pretty basic, with occasional strobes during the bigger choruses. With little talking between songs, the set kept moving at a good pace and never felt too rushed or like it dragged on. Some songs blended together for me a bit, though my unfamiliarity with their music probably had something to do with that. “Knot,” though, was the one I left wanting to hear again. I’d like to see them with a little more stage space and better lighting next time.
Rain City Drive
Rain City Drive was the band I was most excited to see! A friend showed me their song “Talk to a Friend” and I was immediately a fan. Then I found out they used to be Slaves, who I listened to back when Jonny Craig was their vocalist! Somehow Matt McAndrew taking over and the name change had completely passed me by.
I’d been curious how Matt’s voice would sound live and he absolutely crushed it! I’m a sucker for vibrato and his sounded just as good as I had hoped. I was impressed with his high notes too. He seemed to hit every one I could hear without looking too strained. Occasionally the instruments washed out his vocals, but otherwise I thought the mix sounded great.
When the lights dimmed you would’ve thought they were headlining from the crowd’s reaction! I know most were there for Sleeping with Sirens, but I was surprised by how many fans went crazy when RCD took the stage! They aren’t really a band you mosh to, but those big choruses had the whole venue singing along. I loved finally hearing “Talk to a Friend” and “Prayers” live for the first time! And if you go see them live, be sure to stick around for “Medicate Me.” I was happy to finally catch them and wouldn’t hesitate to see them again.
Sleeping With Sirens
I’ll admit, I’ve been a Sleeping with Sirens fan for years without ever going out of my way to see them. After tonight, I regret waiting so long! The crowd was cheering while the stage crew was still getting things ready, before the lights had even dimmed! It got louder and louder as each member of the band came out, and when Kellin Quinn walked onstage, it was the loudest I’d heard Myth in a long time!
I like to throw videos on in the background while editing photos and often times that’s one of Matt Horn’s drum-tech videos, and a few of the more recent ones were from his time teching for Sleeping with Sirens. So I was excited to hear “Kick Me” live for the first time, as that’s what they have been using for their intro song for a while now and I’m glad they didn’t change that for this show! That first guitar lick always gets me amped up and finally hearing it in person was the perfect way to start their set.
Kellin’s vocals were what I’d been most curious about and his highs were just as impressive live as on the records! There’s a reason so many bands want him featuring on a song. You hear that voice and immediately know who it is! He was jumping around between vocal parts, then stopping in front of different sections during slower passages to sing directly to them. The people in front of him loved it!
The rest of the band was moving around the stage a bunch too, with one member ending up out in the crowd at one point! I wouldn’t go to a Sleeping with Sirens show expecting to spend the night moshing, but when Kellin asked people to jump or clap, the whole room seemed to join in! There was some light chat between songs, a few trips down memory lane, and jokes about the different hairstyles hes had in photos over the years.
They played “With Ears to See, and Eyes to Hear” acoustically, and I was glad to hear some earlier, heavier stuff like “The Bomb Dot Com V2.0” too. Also, I miss when bands named songs like that! “If I’m James Dean, You’re Audrey Hepburn” is another great example of not only a great song, but a great song name, and another reason to stay for the encore! I’d waited years to hear these songs live and I only wish I had heard them sooner!
