The Current 89.3 and First Avenue present Michael Kiwanuka live at The Palace Theater, St. Paul MN, February 3rd 2020
Review and photos by Kyle Hansen
Opening tonight was alt indie rocker Sammy Brue. He came equipped with his guitar and a bass player. It was interesting smooth jam style. He did state after the first song that tonight’s setlist would be all new songs on one has ever heard. Must be in promotion for his new album coming out June 12th called Crash Test Kid. For as young as he seems he has a lot of style in his music. Is you like a more soft rock jam acoustic rock check him out. I have included a link to his web page HERE.
Michael has sold out The Palace Theater for his first St Paul show. All the other shows have been across the Mississippi to the west in the other side of the Twin Cities. I must admit I have never listened to him but always love a live show. I was covering for someone who could not make it. He came out to Piano Joint which is a very soulful song. I was very impressed right of f the bat. His voice seemed to sooth the sold out show immediately. He then kicked into a little more groove oriented tunee called One More Night and You Ain’t the Problem. He did ask the audience before them “Are you ready for some soul music?” From the crowds response the answer was yes. He kept the soul going for his 100 minute set. He is in support of his latest release Kiwanuka. He has become quite the popular soul singer in the last 9 years, even having one of his songs used for the HBO show Big Little Lies. His talent is that what should not be missed.
