Lupe Fiasco. – The Fillmore – Minneapolis MN – Spetember 23rd 2026

The Back to Basics Tour on September 23rd at The Fillmore in Minneapolis was the perfect curation of blast from the past from the late 00s and 2010s that could pull almost anyone out of the Wednesday slump. Featuring B.o.B., Gym Class Heroes, and Lupe Fiasco. If you said there wasn’t a song you’ve heard before you’d be lying.

To kick the night off B.o.B. ran onto the stage. The positive energy flooded the room. B.o.B. filled the whole stage with his presence and made sure the crowd would remember him through the whole night. Playing through songs like Nothin’ on You, Price Tag, and Airplanes. He made sure to get the crowd ready for what was to come. After lots of joking with the crowd, handstands, and dedicating a song to the “drinkers in the audience” his set came to an end, but instead of playing a song to close his set he brought out a bag of merch and started signing hats and shirts to throw into the crowd. Being an opener of his size this meant a lot. Giving his fans a gift for coming early to watch his set.

Next up Gym Class Heroes took the stage. First, the band walked out to their instruments that were stationed on the backdrop that looked like a cityscape complete with graffiti and guard rails. Travie McCoy ran out smiling at the crowd, waiving, and making a heart with his hands. Through the music two moments stood out the most during their set. One was during the song Universal language which is a new single that will be on their first new album in 14 years. The second moment was when Travie told the whole crowd to make a heart shape with their hands and stick their pointer fingers out to form a stereo heart so we can express and receive love from one another. Then promptly started performing their hit song Stereo Hearts to end their masterful set.

Lastly, Lupe Fiasco came out on stage sporting a Union Jack in honor of the British rapper Sway who passed away earlier this month. Lupe dedicated this set to him. During the song Kick, Push Lupe danced around the stage and pretended to ride a skateboard during the chorus. At one point he noticed a Whiteclaw that ended up on the stage and broke into a “Whiteclaw Freestyle” this joking nature became a common trend throughout the night. One of my favorites being his discourse with a kid in the audience named Anthony. He brought Anthony on stage, gave him a mic and tried to get him to rap. Being that Anthony was a kid he ducked behind Anthony and pretended to rap as him prompting the audience to chant An-tho-ney for the rest of the show. Lupe Fiasco brought out a couple guests during his set too. Nicki Jean and Billy Blue both came out onto the stage during various points of the night to perform with Lupe. Ending this energetic night with The Show Goes On Lupe wished everyone a great night and gave the whiteclaw to a fan at the barricade.

As the line got longer at the merch stands and the streets proceeded to fill with hip-hop fans coming back to reality excitement filled the air. Fans compared Lupe’s set tonight with his set at the State Fair the year prior and fans expressed their joy in Gym Class Heroes putting out a new album after 15 years. It was clear that this show was the perfect midweek experience to get everyone through the rest of the week.
