I DON’T KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME (IDKHOW for short), fronted by Dallon Weekes, brought their IMPENDING GLOOM tour to First Avenue on Sunday, November 24th, 2024. I will be honest, I didn’t know this band beyond hearing a singular song or two from working at Hot Topic a few years back, but considering the line around the block when I arrived at doors, I figured I’d have something entertaining to listen to and watch.

Opening for IDKHOW was ALEXSUCKS, a grunge-y, rock-y, dance-y band that brought some great audience participation and dancey tunes to start out the night. They definitely grew on me as they performed; every song I ended up liking more than the last, or maybe that was just their infectious energy throughout their performance. Either way, I’d definitely recommend listening to them while driving in a car with the windows down.

As for IDKHOW, I haven’t seen or heard a frontman so charismatic in quite a while. This man knows how to work a crowd. With volatile movements, snarky audience interactions, and excellent music to match it all, he had the crowd in the palm of his hand. With a vibe similar to The Flaming Lips or Arctic Monkeys, Dallon really sets himself apart with his voice. There is a point where I can just sit back and recognize that the music happening in front of me is excellently crafted and performed. This band was tight, and Dallon’s voice had such control and fun to it, as he did all sorts of exclamations and high notes throughout the performance. It was delightful to just experience an excellent vocal performance. That’s honestly what impressed me the most. I was open-mouthed more than once at the sheer audacity. It was a night of lighthearted singing and dancing away to some excellent songs, and I’m definitely going to be checking out more of IDKHOW.

Their latest album, GLOOM DIVISON, is out now on streaming platforms.
