Canadian singer-songwriter Allie X visited the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis, MN on November 22nd while on her Weird World Tour.  Her spring release of Girl with No Face has received praises as one of the best albums of 2024, and her distinctive synth-pop and electronic soundscapes paired with her unique artistic performance visuals make her live show an experience not to be missed.

The show kicked off with an exquisite and highly entertaining set from performance artist and iconic drag queen Violet Chachki, who exhibited a multi-talented performance of stunning fashion and glamorous looks combined with beautiful vocals and perfectly matched theatrics and stage presence.  She was playful and yet vulnerable with the crowd, creating an intimacy to her performance that allowed a connection with the receptive gathering of fans.  A true performer in every sense, Violet gave a perfect performance to start off a beautiful night of artistic expression.

The energy was palpable as the stage darkened for Allie X to begin her performance.  Her band entered the stage to a shroud of fog and darkness, with a single light from a flashlight illuminating a face on the back of Allie’s head as her voice pierced through the theater for her opening song, “Bitch”.  As the lights brightened as she began the next song, she approached the edge of the stage to pass out masks to eagerly awaiting front row fans, who then joined along in singing as she performed “Weird World”.  Allie X has performed with pop icons like Charli xcx and Dua Lipa, and her vocal talent matches and even surpasses that level of musicality, with beautiful tone and clarity, alternating between playful pop vibes, almost operatic power, and beautifully haunting melodies. But her vocals weren’t the only star of the performance.  Allie X’s charisma as a performer and flair as a visual artist were also on full display through her outfits and visual imagery on stage, creating an all-around immersive performance experience for the entranced crowd.  She delivered such a vibrant and wide-ranging performance that no one wanted it to end, but as the night closed, it was clear that she is one of the most under-rated pop performers on the scene, and it will be exciting to see where her career takes her next, which will likely and hopefully be a monumental and much-deserved rise.
