Garbage – Skyway Theater – Minneapolis MN – 7/7/2016

Skyway Theater presents Garbage.

Garbage, a band that screams the 1990’s upon hearing its name, returned to Minneapolis on July 7, 2016.  Minneapolis holds a special place in their heart, as their first live performance ever was merely a few blocks away, opening for GWAR.  Shirley credits that performance to the band catapulting them to becoming the live band they still are today.  Shirley Manson actually had a fan recollect the tale, passing the mic to them, much to their delight.

Whilst promoting their new album, “Strange Little Birds”, the concert consisted of fan favorites from decades prior, such as “Paranoid”, “Vow”, “Stupid Girl” and more.  The crowd was full of sheer energy, singing “I’m Only Happy when It Rains” word for word aside Shirley.  Unlike their last tour, in which she spoke much more than sang, she promised this wouldn’t happen this time around and instead, focused on the music.  A personal favorite of mine was “#1 Crush”, a song that evokes memories of Baz Lurhmann’s “Romeo and Juliet” soundtrack, one of the more popular soundtracks of that era.

Garbage is still amazing as ever.  Stepping into this concert was like walking back into 1995 when their self titled album was released and this band blew up.  They’re both talented and fun to see, the type of band that makes you feel part of the show, rather than just a spectator.
