Meadow Creek, Buena Vista, Colorado — Friday, August 14, 2026

Field of Vision II opened beneath the mountains with a lineup that refused to fit neatly into one genre. The festival’s first day moved from experimental and psychedelic music to punk, metal, electronic sounds and garage rock, creating the sort of deliberately unpredictable bill that has become central to the Field of Vision identity.

The bill continued to jump between styles. Upchuck delivered the kind of abrasive punk-rock energy that works particularly well at an outdoor festival.

Angine de Poitrine provided one of the day’s more distinctive sounds, while Spacemoth brought a darker, atmospheric edge.

Die Spitz brought a rawer, more immediate punk energy. Folk Bitch Trio added another stylistic change, keeping the day from settling into one predictable sound.

Then came King Gizzard!!!!

By the time King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard took the stage, the festival had already established its personality. The headliners didn’t simplify things.

They opened with “Self-Immolate,” followed by “Extinction,” “Mars for the Rich” and “Predator X.” The opening run was brutally heavy.

“Am I in Heaven?” expanded into a jam containing “The Land Before Timeland” and “People-Vultures” teases. “Ataraxia” returned after a 76-show gap, while “Magma” appeared in an electronic arrangement.

Then came perhaps the biggest surprises of the night: “Level 5” and “Rapid Alpha Decay,” both making their live debuts.

The band followed with the debut of “The Land Before Timeland,” which flowed into “Iron Lung.” The final stretch became a full-blown Gizzard workout:

“Robot Stop” → “Cut Throat Boogie” → “Robot Stop” → “Big Fig Wasp”

The concert finally came to rest with “The River.”

The verdict

★★★★½ out of 5

For fans of extreme music, Blood Incantation was one of the day’s major attractions. The Colorado band’s cosmic approach to death metal fit remarkably well with the surrounding landscape: enormous guitars and dense atmosphere against the mountains of Buena Vista.

The greatest strength of Day One wasn’t simply the quality of the headliner. It was the variety of the entire day. Field of Vision managed to put death metal, punk, psychedelic rock, electronic music, experimental sounds, DJs and performance art into the same Colorado meadow without making the lineup feel random.

And King Gizzard’s three-hour set provided the perfect culmination. With three new/debuted songs, unusual arrangements and extensive improvisation, the band made it clear that its three-night residency was going to be a constantly changing experience.

Day One wasn’t merely the first day of Field of Vision II. It was a statement of what the festival wanted to be: strange, adventurous, loud and completely unwilling to stay in one musical lane.
