Cedar Cultural Center presents Eric Johnson

Eric Johnson Still Communicating “Ah Via Musicom”

Instrumental guitar music has a loyal following, but only a handful of artists are lucky enough to have their music resonate with mainstream listeners.  Eric Johnson is one of those special players as was evident by one of the largest crowds I’ve seen pack out the Cedar Cultural Center on October 25th.  What’s also impressive about this kind of response is that Johnson is not touring to support new music, but rather in celebration of his 1990 breakout album Au Via Musicom.  I was not surprised to see him offer up much more than just this significant collection of songs.  This guitar celebration lasted over 2 hours and included a set of material from Johnson’s various projects followed by the featured album performed start to finish plus 4 encores.  One of my favorites of the evening was “Forty Mile Town”, which also features Johnson’s impressive vocal ability.
