Blink 182 – Xcel Energy Center – St. Paul, MN – May 4th 2023

Blink 182 with Turnstile and Beauty School Dropout

The first US stop of Blink 182’s World Tour landed in St. Paul, MN at the Xcel Energy Center on May 4th, 2023.  Fans eager to catch the original trio back in action for the first time in nearly a decade lined the streets outside the arena.

LA-based rock band Beauty School Dropout started the night off.  They are a less-well known band, but are quickly picking up speed as a band to watch on the indie rock scene.  Lead singer Colie Hutzler’s emotionally charged vocals effortlessly delivered angsty lyrics matched well to the heavy guitar riffs and thunderous drums.  Under the guidance and mentoring of Mark Hoppus of Blink 182, these guys will be going places, and it’s exciting to see them have an opportunity like this on such a massive tour.

Next up was Baltimore based hardcore punk band Turnstile.  They brought a high-energy performance, with a unique sound that was a blend of punk, hardcore, and even funk stylings.  Lead singer Brendan Yates had an intense stage presence with strong vocals and catchy hooks, and they got the crowd even more energized.

The entire arena was on their feet in anticipation as Blink 182 took the stage. The cheers erupted as Travis Barker walked onstage and sat behind his massive drum kit, and he was soon followed by Mark Hoppus and Tom DeLonge.  As Mark exclaimed, “Daddy’s back”, and it was amazing to see the original line-up back together.  Their energy on stage was electrifying, clearly just having fun and enjoying playing back together.  Their 25-song set was filled with hits from their early years all the way through more recent releases.  They played “Adam’s Song” for the first time since 2009 with Tom DeLonge, and also had him singing for the first time on “Bored to Death” and “Cynical”,  both previously performed by former guitarist Matt Skiba.  This show as an unforgettable night and an amazing opening of what is sure to be an incredible tour.
