Atmosphere – Palace Theater – St. Paul MN – December 14th 2018
Overall Entertainment Experience – Did I enjoy the set? Was this a good concert experience?
Performance – Are they good live? Does it sound good?
Energy – Stage presence, overall energy, crowd reaction.
Now that we’ve settled that, time for the reviews.
First off, the venue. The Palace Theatre. My first impression:
Nice venue. Friendly staff. Quality sound. Clean.
As the show went on, it started getting super crowded. I wasn’t able to go up to the second floor because I needed special tickets. Lame. There weren’t a lot of great vantage points on the floor unless you squeezed yourself towards the front. For Minneapolis / St. Paul venues, this was above average. Better than some, but not the best. 6.5/10
Lioness – 8 7 7
I had no idea what to expect from the opener, but Lioness came out strong and set the tone for the rest of the night. The flow and delivery of her rhymes were top-notch. Instantly one of my favorite hip-hop artists. I definitely need to find more of her music. Check out her latest album, Greater Vision.
deM atlaS – 7 8 8
deM atlaS is an outstanding performer and musician. His style of rap is like nothing I’ve heard before. His musical style is truly unique. He brought the energy, too. He was spinning, jumping and had the crowd moving from side to side. I need to get his music on my iPod immediately. Great range. Superb set. Would see again.
Atmosphere – 9 8 9
Although I’ve only seem Atmosphere twice, they’re definitely one of the top shows in the state. It’s easy to see why this show was sold out. They played a lot of their older jams (don’t tell the record label). Slug was all smiles and his positive energy was contagious. He had the crowd in the palm of his hand. Exceptional show. Atmosphere is a must-see when they’re in town.
