Leo Presents The Soap Girls live at The Green Room in Minneapolis Minnesota on May 14th 2025
Review and photos by Kyle Hansen
Rating: ★★★★☆
Genre: Punk Rock / Alternative
Atmosphere: Raw, rebellious, and empowering
The SoapGirls—French-born, South African-raised sisters Noemie (“Mie”) and Camille (“Mille”) Debray—deliver a live show that’s equal parts raw punk energy, theatrical chaos, and fierce individuality. Known for their “anti-establishment” attitude and DIY ethos, a SoapGirls concert isn’t just a musical event—it’s a statement.
Performance
From the first note, the SoapGirls explode onto the stage with unfiltered energy. Their chemistry as sisters is undeniable, trading vocals and instrument duties with seamless synergy. Mille’s guitar riffs are gritty and fierce, while Mie’s basslines are thunderous and unforgiving. Backed by pounding drums, they create a wall of sound that feels both anarchic and strangely tight.
Vocally, they alternate between melodic singing and primal screams, a combination that mirrors their lyrical themes: freedom, authenticity, and resistance to conformity.
Stage Presence
The duo is notorious for their provocative fashion (or lack thereof) and in-your-face attitude, using their bodies and voices as tools of defiance. They interact with the audience constantly, often stepping off the stage to sing among the crowd or challenge hecklers directly.
The show is highly immersive—expect glitter, soap bubbles, raw political rants, and maybe a few middle fingers. It’s punk with performance art layered on top.
Setlist Highlights
A typical setlist includes fan favorites like:
-
“Breathe” – emotionally charged with a melodic edge.
-
“Johnny Rotten” – a rebellious anthem.
-
“Society’s Rejects” – their unofficial motto, loud and proud.
-
“Chains” – a slower but intense ballad.
Crowd and Vibe
The crowd is often a diverse mix of punks, misfits, and curious newcomers. Everyone is welcome—The SoapGirls are all about embracing individuality and rejecting judgment. The mosh pit can get wild, but there’s a strong sense of community and mutual respect.
Final Thoughts
The SoapGirls are not for the faint of heart. Their concerts are loud, unfiltered, and unapologetic—everything punk is supposed to be. While their theatrics can sometimes overshadow the music, the authenticity they bring to the stage is hard to match. Whether you’re a die-hard punk or just curious, their live show is an experience you won’t forget.
