The Addams Family performance at The Ordway

Review by Tracy Hansen

I had no idea what to expect when we went to see The Addams Family at the Ordway. Aside from knowing the characters—and having grown up with the iconic ‘90s movies—that was really the extent of my familiarity. But honestly, The Addams Family has always been such a fun, quirky world that I didn’t feel the need to look anything up beforehand. I figured it would be entertaining no matter what—and I was right.

The plot centers around Wednesday Addams, who has grown up and fallen in love with a “normal” boy named Lucas. The two plan to marry, but before that happens, Wednesday invites his very average, very conservative family over for dinner to meet her… let’s just say unconventional relatives. If you know anything about the Addamses, you can probably guess that things don’t go smoothly. And indeed, everything that can go sideways does—in the most hilarious and theatrical way possible.

The show itself is incredibly accessible and easy to enjoy. The audience was full of people of all ages—from little kids to older adults—and everyone seemed to be having a great time. The humor is layered in such a way that kids can enjoy the more obvious jokes, while adults will appreciate the subtle wit and clever dialogue woven throughout.

The cast was phenomenal, but I was especially impressed by Gomez, who carries a large portion of the show with both spoken lines and musical numbers. His energy, comedic timing, and emotional depth were spot-on. Morticia was equally captivating—elegant, deadpan, and magnetic. Whether they were singing, dancing, or simply exchanging glances, the chemistry between them was electric and kept the audience engaged.

This production is a fantastic addition to the Halloween season. It hits the sweet spot between spooky and silly, and the whole thing just radiates fun. If you’re looking for something festive, entertaining, and a little offbeat, I’d highly recommend catching this show. It’s a perfect night out for families, couples, or anyone who enjoys a bit of creepy, kooky charm.
