Samanatha Fish / King Fish – Pantages Theater – Minneapolis MN – July 9th 2025

Hennepin Theater Arts presents the Gone Fishin Tour staring Samantha Fish and King Fish at the Pantages Theater on July 9th 2025

Review and photos by Kyle Hansen

The historic Pantages Theatre trembled with raw blues power as Samantha Fish and Christone “Kingfish” Ingram brought their Gone Fishin’ co-headlining tour to Minneapolis. Known for pushing modern blues into fresh, genre-bending territory, both artists delivered powerhouse sets filled with swagger, soul, and searing guitar work.

From the jump, the crowd knew they were in for something electric. The night felt like a celebration of not just blues, but musicianship at its most fearless.

Samantha took the stage first in her signature glam-blues style—blazing guitar in hand, fire in her voice. She opened with “Bulletproof,” setting a gritty tone that mixed swamp rock with sultry vocals. Her set moved between genres: rootsy Delta blues, rock-infused ballads, and even a punk-edged cover of MC5’s “Kick Out the Jams.”

Highlights:

  • “Sweet Southern Sounds” showcased her slide guitar mastery and raw vocal intensity.

  • Her cover of “I Put a Spell on You” was spellbinding—dark, smoky, theatrical.

  • The crowd erupted during “I’m Done Running,” a crowd favorite off her new lp.

Between songs, Fish engaged the audience with warmth and sass, showing her comfort as a frontwoman. Her guitar solos were like lightning bolts—sharp, emotional, and fearless.

After a brief intermission, Kingfish took the stage with a quiet confidence that gave way to absolute storm. At just 26, he already plays with the weight of a blues elder but with the urgency of someone writing his own chapter.

Highlights:

  • Opened with “Voodoo Chile (Slight Return),” a nod to Hendrix that felt both reverent and electrifying.

  • A searing rendition of “Fresh Out” hushed the room. The emotion in his voice cut deep.

  • His “662” was respectful yet explosive from his latest cd.

Kingfish’s guitar tone—rich, full, expressive—paired with his soulful vocals, was spellbinding. He barely spoke between songs, letting the music do all the talking.

The encore brought Fish and Kingfish back together for a joint set, trading solos and smiles like old friends. Their chemistry was undeniable, especially during a 10-minute jam of “Long Distant Woman”. Fish’s ferocity and Kingfish’s fluidity intertwined beautifully.

★★★★★ (5/5 stars)
A blues masterclass. Samantha Fish and Kingfish didn’t just share the stage—they raised each other higher. The Pantages Theatre became a cathedral of modern blues that night, filled with sweat, soul, and six-string sermons. A must-see pairing if they come through your town.

The forgotten classics.
