Placebo – The Fillmore – Minneapolis MN – April 20th 2023
Fans of Placebo were in for a treat on April 20, 2023. That was when the iconic British rock band took the stage at the Fillmore in Minneapolis. They were there to perform their entire new album, “Never Let Me Go”, as well as some fan-favorite covers.
The atmosphere inside the venue was electric as fans eagerly awaited the start of the show. Placebo did not disappoint, opening with “Forever Chemicals” from their new album, which immediately had the crowd singing along.
Throughout the night, Placebo showcased their trademark sound, with Brian Molko’s distinctive vocals and the band’s moody, introspective lyrics captivating the audience. One quite noticeable change was Brian’s look on this tour. For those familiar with the band, they know that Brian has always carried a very androgynus image. On this tour, people will note that his hair is now longer and he sports facial hair, the first I’ve ever seen of it.
Brian Molko has stated for years that he is sick to death of being on stage and looking out into a sea of phones. He’s not the only one. I’m the type of person that likes to absorb myself in the sounds of the show. Nowadays, so many people seem to go to shows to take photos of themselves and tell people they were there. It’s about that rather than enjoying the music. Having a show that doesn’t allow photos and videos is honestly a breath of fresh air.
Overall, the show was a solid one. After postponements in the UK due to illnesses, it was awesome to be able to get this one. If I have any complaint, it’s that they played the whole “Never Let Me Go” album. I’m never a huge fan of the majority of the setlist being new material. However, I understand it from an artist’s standpoint. I wouldn’t want to constantly be singing the same stuff over and over again for years either.
