Motion City Soundtrack – 7th St Entry – Minneapolis MN – September 19th 2025
First Avenue presents Motion City Soundtrack with special guests Junior Choir on September 19th 2025
Review by Jesse McKinnney
– Junior Choir –
I had never heard of Junior Choir prior to the show, but they were the perfect opener for Motion City Soundtrack’s return to the small stage. Their set was full of energy, with catchy hooks and a raw edge that fit the vibe of the 7th St Entry perfectly. You could tell they were happy to be there, and that energy carried into the crowd. By the end of their set, I was already looking up their music to save and show people later. It was a great call for an opener and a band I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on.

– Motion City Soundtrack –
Having been a fan of Motion City Soundtrack for a long time now, I hate to admit that this was my first time seeing them live, but I couldn’t have asked for a better show! There are some shows that just feel special the moment you walk through the door and Motion City Soundtrack’s return to 7th Street Entry was exactly that. The tiny room was completely sold out, shoulder-to-shoulder with fans ready to celebrate the release of The Same Old Wasted Wonderful World. (Vocalist Justin Pierre mentioned during the set that the show sold out in 37 seconds!)

Seeing a band with a catalog as big as Motion City Soundtrack squeeze onto a tiny stage like 7th St Entry felt like being let in on a secret, something you’ll be telling people years from now you were lucky enough to witness. The crowd was mixed with fans of all ages, some having been fans since day one, and some who were not even born yet when Motion City Soundtrack’s debut album came out! The set mixed in new songs with old favorites, and the crowd, not matter how long they had been a fan, sang every word back, no matter if the track was brand new or from the early 2000s.
Justin Pierre kept the mood light between songs, joking with the audience and clearly soaking up the moment. The entire night felt like a hometown party thrown for fans and less like a typical tour stop. By the end of the night, it was clear: Motion City Soundtrack after 27 years has not lost a step. If anything, their new album and the energy it brings shows they’re still going as strong as ever! A perfect reminder of why Minnesota will always claim Motion City Soundtrack as one of our own.
