Treasure Island and Resort Casino presents KC and the Sunshine Band

KC and the Sunshine Band performed live at Treasure Island Resort and Casino in Red Wing, Minnesota on March 8, 2025. It was days after our biggest snowfall of the year, but it felt like spring outside with temperatures in the 50s. This would come up during the show when KC mentioned how “cold” it was outside. As the audience is all wearing flannels and sweaters at the most.
I really didn’t know what to expect from this show. KC and the Sunshine Band’s music has always been so much fun. But considering they debuted in 1973, you never know what you’re going to see. I never thought I would see KC and the Sunshine Band live in concert. And I certainly didn’t think it would be as fun as it was last night.
The show truly exceeded my expectations. To begin with, his voice is still just great. That’s always such a fun surprise when you see bands that have been around for as long as they have. It’s impressive. KC made a point of mentioning that he is 74 years old. You wouldn’t know it with how well he was singing and moving around on stage. He did a pirouette at the end of the show, for crying out loud.
The stage show reminded me of a mix of a Vegas show and a Lisa Frank sticker collage. There were at least eight people on stage at any given moment. He brought a horn selection with him as well as backup singers and dancers that made the show. There was so much color and vibrancy.
I do have to say, that despite the average age of the audience being in their 60’s, they were up and moving around. I’m in my 40’s and I had nowhere near the energy of a lot of these people. There was a man across the aisle from me who had to be in his mid 70’s and he was up dancing and singing the entire time. It was so awesome to see because you could see everyone was having a lot of fun.
The only downside to the show, which wasn’t huge, was that KC took a good ten minutes just talking about things two songs into the show. Granted, it was all entertaining, but it got to the point where we were wondering when the third song would start. Also, there were a few songs that got very long. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing and definitely reminded me of the Vegas show style. I like to mention it though because that isn’t everyone’s cup of tea.
Overall, awesome, super fun show. Everyone was just having a GREAT time. Again, I find it really cool to see older crowds on their feet really enjoying themselves. There’s this whole idea that only younger crowds go to concerts and dance like this, but that certainly was not the case this evening.
