From the moment Jack White took the stage at the Palace Theatre on April 8th, it was clear the audience was in for a night of controlled chaos and electric mysticism. The venue, a beautifully restored 100-year-old theater in downtown St. Paul, offered the perfect sonic sanctuary for White’s raw, genre-blending sound.

He opened the show with a thunderous rendition of “Old Scratch Blues,” immediately establishing his signature blend of fuzz-drenched guitar riffs and frenetic energy. The crowd, a mix of long-time White Stripes fans and newer converts from his solo work, roared with approval.

White barely spoke between songs, instead letting the music lead—his guitar solos were feral and improvisational, taking sharp turns into blues, garage rock, and even psychedelic territory. His band, tight but never sterile, followed him like a well-tuned engine, clearly ready for anything.

Highlights included an explosive “Let’s Build A Home,” a hauntingly slow-burn version of “Love Interruption,” and a stripped-down acoustic moment with “Bombing Out” that brought the whole crowd to a hush. The encore featured a fiery mashup of “Icky Thump” and “Steady, As She Goes,” proving he still knows how to close a set with maximum voltage.

The lighting was minimalist but dramatic—blues and purples lit the stage in smoky waves, creating a noir vibe that matched the dark poetry of his lyrics. No phones were allowed (as is his tradition), which only heightened the intensity of the shared experience.

All in all, it was a night of unfiltered rock and roll, where every note felt alive and unpredictable. Jack White continues to prove he’s not just a performer—he’s a conductor of chaos, and St. Paul got the full voltage.
