Erykah Badu – The Armory – Minneapolis MN – October 13th 2021

Live Nation and The Armory present Erykah Badu

Review and photos by Kate Klaus

Erykah Badu brought her “Live from Badubatron” tour to the Armory in Minneapolis, and with it, her intense vocals, eccentric outfits, and commanding stage presence.  After an extended wait, her band took to the stage to perform for the animated and excited audience.  Opening up with an instrumental jam, the anticipation built as the drum beats and dancing became more powerful.  Through a cloud of fog, Erykah Badu appeared on stage and the crowd erupted in cheers. She opened up her performance with “Dial’Afreaq”, and beckoned the seated crowd onto their feet and up to the rail.  Her power and energy continued as she progressed through her set, alternating between soulful deep tones and piercing and dominating lyrics. Taking a moment to do a “roll call” in between songs, it was apparent that her music touches people across the ages, with cheers for the babies of the 70s, 80s, 90s and beyond.  It was a full evening of beautiful music, dancing, love, and power.
