Electric Callboy brought a completely sold out show from their completely sold out Tekkno World Tour to the Fillmore on one of these last recent super hot nights of the summer. It was one of the most fun shows I’ve been to this year. Walking up to the venue, I don’t think I’ve ever seen that many fake mullets and bad bobs in one place.

Their first opener, Conquer Divide, I only knew from the song they’d done with Electric Callboy, “Fuckboi.” They were a great opener for the night with a classic rock sound, melodic vocals, and attitude to match it all. The place was pretty packed and there for it from the beginning. There was no slow ramp at this show. People were there to party on a Tuesday night. I consider Electric Callboy a solid mix of party music and heavy metal, so Conquer Divide adequately provided the more “metal” side to start.

Their second opener, Solence, hails from Sweden and brought the more electronic metal part to the show, which I deemed another worthy opener for Electric Callboy. The vibes were being set perfectly. I really enjoyed Solence, with their matching outfits and claims that “a banger a day keeps the doctor away.” It was heavy, electronic, with powerful choruses that made it impossible not to dance/thrash to.

Electric Callboy has been a band for a while, but sort of reinvented themselves in 2020 when they got a new singer and released the song “Hypa Hypa,” which is the first one I heard, and I fell in love instantly. Their electronicore sound (what I also lovingly refer to as “party metal”) was immediately catchy and all their songs would get in your head for days. Their comedic approach to writing really good music resulted in many memorable songs. Their videos were chaotic and absurdist, and needless to say I was wondering if their energy would match that in a live setting. I was not disappointed.

From the first few songs when I was up there shooting I had to dodge several crowd surfers; they were starting early. And it just continued the entire night. There was a lot of crowd interaction, crowd surfers galore, mosh pits of varying sizes and speeds. All your classic metal show fare, but then when the dance parts would hit everyone would just jump and dance. They’ve got the charisma and charm that made everyone happy to be there. There was even slow rendition of “Let It Go” that turned into “I Want It That Way,” complete with everyone waving lights around. And then immediately back into the metal. The whiplash was hilarious, and I found myself smiling but then also just laughing at the absurdity of it all.

They ended the night with “We Got The Moves,” probably the most summer party song to ever exist, to the most extreme extent. If you needed a good endcap to your summer, which I considered this to be, this was it. What has become one of their more popular songs made the crowd go absolutely nuts. A big circle pit had started with the last couple songs, so it continued in a big dance/mosh frenzy. I do love a good mosh pit, and this one may be my favorite one to date I’ve experienced. The poppy chorus where everyone danced, the metal breakdowns where everyone moshed, the smiling and laughing of people singing lyrics at each other, sweaty dudes with their shirts off; it was the whole package.

If you like metal in any capacity, I would not miss Electric Callboy again. Their comedic demeanor may belie their amazing songwriting ability, but it gives them an edge and a uniqueness to their sound and show that is something you don’t want to miss.
