This was the third show I had the pleasure of covering for 1013 Music Review, and each time I visit The Armory, I find myself appreciating the venue more. Despite the well-known traffic challenges in the Twin Cities, which made me five minutes late and caused me to miss the opening song of the first band, I quickly recovered and managed to capture the rest of their set. I truly enjoy working with The Armory’s staff—they are consistently kind, respectful, and create a welcoming atmosphere for photographers.

The night opened with Foxing, a band from St. Louis, Missouri. Although I missed their first song, I immersed myself in the crowd for the remainder of their set, listening and photographing their performance. Foxing’s music weaves together melodic and hard rock elements, infused with emotional depth. Their 30-minute set featured standout tracks like “Going Down Together,” “At Least We Found the Floor,” and “The Medic.” The lighting—rich in haze, mist, with purple, blue, and white spotlights—added to the ambiance that seems to be a signature for opening acts lately. Foxing is undoubtedly a band on the rise and a joy to watch live.

Next up, co-headliners Taking Back Sunday took the stage. Many in the audience seemed to have grown up with the band, perhaps first encountering them during the Warped Tour years ago. It was a nostalgic experience that transported me back to those days, and the band has clearly retained their energy and appeal. Their 70-minute set was packed with fan favorites, including “Cute Without the ‘E’,” “MakeDamnSure,” and “You’re So Last Summer.” The crowd was fully engaged, dancing and singing along. The stage featured dynamic visuals, with a wall-mounted screen displaying live video feeds from all around the venue, and a riser allowing the band to perform elevated above the crowd. Their relaxed, business-casual attire added a unique touch to their showmanship, making their performance both visually and musically compelling.

As the stage was set for Coheed and Cambria, anticipation built throughout the crowd. The crew carefully attended to every last detail, building excitement for the set to come. Although the concert fell on a Wednesday night, that didn’t stop fans from packing the venue. From the very first song, the audience was singing along and letting loose. Coheed and Cambria delivered a phenomenal 90-minute performance, complete with top-notch production and impressive lighting. Their mascot, with glowing eyes, stood sentinel on stage throughout the set, complemented by a video wall displaying animated backdrops that added a unique flair. Hits like “Welcome Home,” “Blood Red Summer,” and “Good Eye, Sniper” had the crowd singing at the top of their lungs.

Overall, this was another fantastic show to cover. Long-running bands like these prove that even through lineup changes, the right combination of talent can bring renewed energy and create unforgettable live experiences. Special thanks go out to the hardworking staff at The Armory, whose dedication makes this venue a standout stop for any tour. I look forward to returning for more unforgettable nights like this one.
