The Wonder Years

The Wonder Years kicked things off for the Maximum Fun Tour after a short delay due to Dinosaur Pile-Up not making the show because of visa issues. The crowd seemed to be getting restless as the start time got later than expected, but the moment The Wonder Years hit the stage the energy snapped right back! The Wonder Years got the blood flowing fast with a tight, high-energy set that felt like catching up with old friends.

I always like seeing a band that’s still built around its original core, every member having been there since 2005, with the only addition being keyboardist Nick Steinborn who joined in 2009. That chemistry shows on stage; the set felt loose, fun, and genuine. They even managed to squeeze in a couple extra songs thanks to the change in schedule which everyone in the crowd was more than happy about!

As for the venue, The Armory remains one of my personal favorite spots in the Twin Cities to see a show. It’s always packed with energy, the lighting is consistently perfect, and there isn’t a bad view anywhere in the place!

Yellowcard

Yellowcard hit the stage next and from the very first chord it was clear why Yellowcard are legends of the early 2000s pop-punk scene. I honestly don’t think there’s anyone who grew up during that era who doesn’t know “Ocean Avenue”! Every person in the crowd was singing every word as loud as they could!

Having been doing these show reviews for about five months now, I can say that of all the bands on this tour, Yellowcard got the biggest reaction from my friends when I told them about the show, and it was easy to see why. This lineup is packed with pop-punk veterans and legends: Yellowcard first formed in 1997, and after a short hiatus, reunited in 2022, yet they still play like a band at the top of their game.

I was genuinely impressed by the energy they brought to the stage. Even after all these years, Ryan Key’s vocals sounded as strong as ever, carrying every song with the same passion that made the band iconic! Watching them command the crowd, you could see why their songs remain timeless. Yellowcard is the perfect mix of nostalgia, precision, and pure pop-punk joy.

A Day To Remember

A Day To Remember closed out the Maximum Fun Tour, and for me, seeing them live never gets old. I first caught them back in 2009 at Warped Tour and have been a fan ever since. Opening with “The Downfall of Us All” (as they’ve done for years), the energy in the room hit instantly! Make sure to never be late to an A Day to Remember show or you’ll miss one of the most fun moments in modern metalcore!

They played a bunch of tracks off Homesick, which in my opinion remains one of the greatest metalcore albums of all time. Hearing those songs live, especially The Downfall of Us All, never fails to get the crowd moving. They also showcased a lot from their new album released back in March, which has already made my list for one of the year’s best. I loved how heavy and aggressive they went with it, and the band absolutely delivered those tracks live

Having seen A Day to Remember numerous times, I was really impressed this time by the production they brought! This was by far the biggest stage setup I’ve seen from them with the fire, confetti cannons and massive lighting rig, A Day to Remember has taken their show to a new level!

Always be on the lookout for an A Day to Remember show because you never know where they might be playing, I once saw them at the X Games in 2017, where they played one song inside the stadium between events, then followed up with a full set outside once the games were over. Legendary moments like that cement why they’re always one of the best live acts.

This lineup couldn’t have had a better headliner. A Day To Remember is a band I’ll always recommend seeing live; their energy, precision, and knack for connecting with the crowd make every show unforgettable!
