Sum 41 – Skyway Theater – Minneapolis MN – October 5th 2019

Sum 41 with their ‘Order in Decline – World Tour’ came a sold-out Skyway Theatre in Minneapolis on October 5th, 2019.  Along with them were other well-known acts like Authority Zero, The Plot in You, Less Than Jake, Bowling for Soup, and The Amity Affliction.

Observing the crowd, everyone seems to be around my age that has been listening to Sum 41 for well over a decade. Along with the release of their newest album ‘Order in Decline’ they are also celebrating the 15th anniversary of their third studio album  ‘Chuck’.

Sum 41 is a punk-rock band out of Ajax, Ontario, formed in 1996. The bands debut album, ‘All Killer No Filler’ put them on the mainstream charts with the single “Fat Lip”, which reached number one on Billboards Modern Rock Tracks.

I’ve seen Sum 41 live quite a few times, as they’ve always remained one of my favorite bands since they first came out. Various trips to warped tour, co-headlining shows, and headlining, I’m sure I’ve been to them all. However it had been several years since I’ve last seen them. The high-school kid in me was ecstatic, as you could feel with every other person my age in the room. I couldn’t wait to see if their shows would be the same or different since seeing them when I was younger. They do not disappoint to watch, as they are refreshingly entertaining as always. Constantly engaging the crowd and making sure they make their fans feel apart of their show. The last song before the encore, which band members didn’t even think was going to happen, they blew out the sound/speakers, as the guitars and bass stopped working. Deryck Whibley sang along with the crowd as everyone in the room was singing back the words. The crowd yelled ‘Sum 41’ in unison until they came back to the stage, however, their instruments were still not working, just as you think they are about to give up and call it a night, the microphone starts working along with all the other instruments. They play three more songs before they call it a night. But just as you think it’s over, the lights come back on stage and the members come back on stage with 80’s hair wigs and play ‘Pain for Pleasure’. Super entertaining and well worth seeing. I would always recommended seeing Sum 41 whenever they come through your city, as they will never disappoint.
