So let’s start with Rock From the Heart mission.

The weekend continued with another feel good show. This one is with one of the biggest 80’s acts, Rick Springfield. On the way down I was listening to a few of his albums and realized I have never seen him live. When I got to the Fillmore the place was already packed. Everyone seemed in high spirits. Weather it was the week of snow storms or just a good ol Saturday night out.

First up was The Band That Fell to Earth. A Minneapolis 7 piece band that has been around for years celebrating the great David Bowie. Bailey Ann is the lead singer and tonight she was dressed as Aladdin Sane and the rest of the band looked real sharp. As any respectful Bowie band would. I had not seen these guys either but they are excellent. They had a smaller set due to the opening slot. Fame was the opener and had everyone one their feet dancing immediately.  The vibe during the set was just like old school concerts. I’m not sure what it was tonight but everyone was in an amazing mood. The rest of the set included Golden Years, Changes, Moonage Daydream, Let’s Dance, Under Pressure and I’m Afraid of Americans. Check the band out for future dates. Just click the name above.

So before Rick took the stage I got myself ready up front. While talking with the guards to find out where we can shoot from and the rules several of the women at the show wanted to know also. Of course they said it was a seated show so no rushing the stage. Well they didn’t listen. As soon as the lights went out BAM people everywhere. Rick came out to Affair of the Heart and went right into I Get Excited and Living in OZ. I worked my way slowly through the crowd and got some great shots. They we more than happy to pose for the camera. One thing I noticed while I was up there is all these girls had roses. Now this is not different than any other concert. Girls bring flowers to singers all the time. Well Rick takes them and does a Pete Townshend with them sending them flying all over the stages. Nice move Rick!

His set included all the hits. State of The Heart, a really cool tune him and Sammy Hagar wrote called Party at the Beach Bar, Everybody’s Girl. a song dedicated to his dad called My Father’s Chair which he played on a keytar in front on the stairs right in fornt of everyone. As I watched him play I was wondering how old is Rick. I know our favorites are getting older but for 73 WOW. He is working the stage like 33 year old. Plus he looks great. He also did a cool medley of Bop Til You Drop – Bruce – 867-5309 – Don’t Walk Away – Rock of Life and Walk Kind of Fool Am I. He also played Voodoo House and told us he has a new album coming up soon that will be very different. So looking forward to that. After that tune he did a cool solo explaining the origins of the 50’s guitar he had on. It went from jazz to surf music to a rock solo into Wild Thing! Not the usual guitar solo. Closing out the set was Don’t Talk to Stranger with audience sing along, Human Touch with him coming out in to the crowd to give hi-fives and shake hands, then closing it out with Love Somebody. We all know Jessie’s Girl is the encore and he ripped it up. He also came out without his shirt off and the guy next to me says’s ” Come on man you makin’ us look like crap, I didn’t look that good when I was 23!” What a show. If Rick is in your town go see him you will not be disappointed.

This is important. Before World Start Turning Rick talked about his suffering with depression. Now we all know someone who has suffered from this so I have to address this. My son is dressed and it is very important to me. He talked about last week was not good for him and if you do suffer from depression talk to someone, call someone or just try to get help. I its not good to keep it in. So if you are or know someone suffering from depression or have suicidal thoughts please call someone. Here is a link for help.

I would also like to thank Rick’s team for getting the approval for the show at the last minute. It was a wonderful show.
