First Avenue Goes to the Fair – Shell’s Stage – Minnesota State Fair – September 3rd 2022

Lens on Music at the Fair – Day 10

Content by Patrick Dunn

The final Saturday at the Minnesota State Fair always has potential to be the busiest of the 12-day run. I’m guessing this was the case for 2022 as we were blessed with better than average weather for most days of the Fair. The highly anticipated act for the Grandstand was the legendary Diana Ross, and as expected no media coverage was allowed. I chose to cover headlining set on the Shell’s Stage at Schilling Amphitheater, which was night two of First Avenue Goes to the Fair. There’s no one more qualified to put together a quality show of Minnesota Music than First Avenue. This was a pretty substantial show and featured sets by 4 separate acts consisting of Cindy Lawson, Mae Simpson, Molly Brandt and Thomas Abban. The show was hosted by Zeke and all of the artists were backed by house band Al Church and The Congregation.

Scroll down the page for additional show coverage from the day including The Family Stone who was headlining the Leinie’s Lodge Bandshell, and Corey Medina and Brothers who played the Shell’s Stage earlier that day.
